A Jersey Shore teenager will be remembered at a running event this weekend
WALL, NJ — A Wall Township teenager will be remembered this weekend at a racing event hosted by the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club.
The organization where the teenager used to run and volunteer will still host the event called Turkey Derby between Friday and Sunday, with the blessing of his parents.
“We look forward to seeing you there and we look forward to celebrating and remembering,” the organization wrote on social media.
They remember the teenager, Shawn Erm, as a “helpful young man and a role model for our young children”, whose death “will be difficult for our club to overcome”.
They also urged anyone who knew the teenager to invite them to come to the derby and ‘share our event and our memory’.
According to the organization, the 17-year-old had served as a volunteer and would help them organize their races for several years, since retiring from quarterback midget racing.
His parents were also involved with the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club. Her mother was the current race director and her father is a former board member.
The organization said that through his volunteering, the teenager will ensure his track is technologically advanced by implementing new methods to improve communications with our members, speeding up registrations for COVID compliance and streamlining procedures. race day process.
On many race days he “run the computer, managed all the lineups, played pre-race music and helped dry the track with his homemade ‘jet dryer’,” they wrote.
The schedule of events for this weekend will be as follows:

- Saturday – 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. registration, 8:45 a.m. handlers meeting, 9:00 a.m. practice lap followed by double runs
