Competitors prepare for the Bahrain drag racing event
The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “the homeland of motorsport in the Middle East,” has its NHRA quarter-mile drag track fully set up for this week’s highly anticipated start of the Drag Racing Championship. Bahrain 2021-22.
The first of five rounds of the region’s first series of drag races will take place from tomorrow to Friday in Sakhir.
The action kicks off with two days of Test and Tune tomorrow and Wednesday, scheduled from 7 p.m. to midnight. Qualifying will then take place on Thursday, setting up the qualifying pairs for race day on Friday. The races will take place from 4 p.m. on both evenings.
Huge crowds are expected to return to BIC for one of the most popular events on the calendar. Tickets are available online at the official BIC website bahraingp.com and at the door. They cost BD2 for each day of Test and Tune, and BD5 for the start line grandstand or BD3 for the Batelco grandstand for qualifying and race day. Tickets for children 12 and under are half price.
All races will take place along BIC’s world-famous drag track, which is part of the United States-based National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) global network.
A massive field of more than 200 participants, including 175 cars and 40 motorcycles, from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, is expected to feature in the season opener.
Throughout this campaign, they will compete not only for the league titles but also for the prestigious Wally Trophies, the sport’s highest honor bestowed only on champions of NHRA sanctioned events.

Among the main participating teams are Bahrain1 Racing, which are two consecutive NHRA champions, owned by the personal representative of His Majesty King Hamad, Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
There are 13 competition categories: Pro Mod, Competition 4.5, Pro 29.5, Outlaw 6-Cylinder, Outlaw 4-Cylinder, Index 7.5, Index 8.5, Index 9.0 and Index 10.0 for cars; and Street Fight 9.5, Index 8.5, Pro Street and Outlaw for bikes.
In addition to the racing action, fans may have the opportunity to take part in one of BIC’s most exciting attractions with the Dragster Experience, also known as “the fastest ride on earth. ! Fans will have the chance to get a taste of pure speed by going from zero to 100 km / h in one second while sitting in a Top Dragster.
The Dragster experience is available at BD42 for the first passenger while the second passenger can benefit from a 50% discount.
This 2021/2022 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship is expected to feature five rounds in all. The second round will run from December 13 to 16, while the third will take place from January 4 to 7 of the new calendar year. The final two rounds will then take place two consecutive weekends at the BIC, starting with the fourth round from February 8 to 11, then the fifth and final meeting from February 15 to 18.
The series is organized and managed by BIC in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation, the Bahrain Drag Racing Club and the Bahrain Motorcycle Club.
