Fans are happy to be back for the horse racing event in Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif .– The final day of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup ended on Saturday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Fans were happy to be back after last year’s race did not allow anyone in the stands due to the coronavirus. It is also the first time that the Breeders’ Cup has returned to San Diego County since 2017.
Brenda Hammerschmidt, from Florida, said the event was a family reunion.
“I was looking forward to this,” Hammerschmidt said. “We were looking at the news to make sure that happened, with the thefts also at the last minute.”
Unlike others, Hammerschmidt says she chooses her horses differently.
“I know everyone studies it and researches it, but I’m lucky with other breeds – what color the horse is, the names and the jockeys,” she said.
Fred Desimone of Washington state entered the races wearing a hot pink blazer, matching his intended winner.
“This costume matches our jockey silks from our horses in the classic max player,” Desimone said.
The 2022 Breeders’ Cup will be held in Lexington, Ky, but Los Angeles native Jarrett Ynaez is happy that this year is close to home.
“The day is beautiful, the sun is shining, the people are outside,” said Ynaez. “We can mingle, make new friends, and just talk to anyone who has the same common interest as us. “
As for the race, Knicks Go emerged victorious in the $ 6million Breeders’ Cup Classic, beating controversial Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, Belmont Stakes Essential Quality winner and hometown hero Hot Rod. Charlie.
