Grambling partners with NY Racing to feature race car in upcoming Daytona 500

GRAMBLING, La. (KSLA) – Grambling State University is partnering with New York Race GSU owner and alumnus John Cohen will showcase a Grambling-inspired car at an upcoming NASCAR event.

According to a university press release, the car is number 44 and is a Chevrolet Camaro sponsored by Grambling State University and HBCU League Pass Plus.

It’s black and yellow and you can’t help but notice the big yellow G stamped right in the middle with the words “We are Grambling” on the trunk.

The car will be driven by Greg Biffle in the NASCAR Cup Series this week, with a view to qualifying for the season-opening Daytona 500 to be held on Sunday, February 20. The driver has won 19 times in his 510 cup series.

“It’s about representing HBCUs, and especially Grambling, and a sport that I love,” Cohen said.

It took several partnerships to get there. Grambling President Rick Gallot said it was the first time an HBCU-inspired car would compete in a NASCAR race.

“As we see this manifest through John and this incredible NASCAR vehicle, it is yet another indication of the depth of our Gram Fam and the love they have for the institution,” said Gallot.
