Man arrested after shooting during street race in Portland; nearly 100 casings found, several victims

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) — Police say four people, including two children, were injured in a shooting during a street race on North Marine Drive in Portland early Monday.

Police responded to calls about a shooting during a street race just after midnight. When officers arrived, they found nearly 100 casings but no casualties.

Officers soon began receiving calls from hospitals about walk-in gunshot victims. In total, a 21-year-old man, an 18-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy arrived at the local emergency room. They are all expected to recover.

The shooter, 21-year-old Adrian Dangelo Ramirez, was identified and arrested after being treated for his gunshot wound.

He was incarcerated in the Multnomah County Detention Center for attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Investigators believe there may be more victims or shooters linked to this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Portland Police Department and reference case number 22-82413.

Police have seen an increase in street racing and believe there were several hundred people at the event last night. Investigators received information that there were several children there as young as 5 months old.

“Street racing is not only illegal, it can turn into a dangerous mob event, attracting not only participants but also spectators,” Chief Chuck Lovell said. “We are fortunate that no one was more seriously injured or killed over the weekend. Unfortunately, their resolution requires considerable resources and can be dangerous not only for those affected, but also for road users. innocent street takeovers who are often impacted.As a city, we must work together to hold accountable those who commit these illegal street takeovers.

So far this year there have been 371 confirmed shootings resulting in 106 injuries. There were 23 homicides, 22 of which were due to gun violence.
