ALLENTOWN, PA – The 2022 VP-powered indoor auto racing series comes to life in five weeks inside the PPL Center in Pennsylvania, and Max McLaughlin will be part of the competition.
The Super DIRTcar Series driver will drive a TQ Midget owned by Frankie Caprara as the driver and owner will make their first starts in the Indoor Auto Racing Series.
The race weekend is scheduled for Jan. 7-8, and the races in Allentown will be the first since 2020, when conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic cut the season short before the final at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY
Among the drivers McLaughlin will have to beat is local favorite Briggs Danner, a native of Lehigh Valley, Pa., Who led a TQ Midget to victory at Wall Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday, November 27.
“We expect competitor interest in the TQ Midget, Champ Kart and Slingshot classes to be at an all time high as we haven’t raced at all for over a year,” said organizer of the series, Len Sammons.
TQ Midget racing cars will headline all programs competing on race tracks set on the concrete floors of three arenas. Slingshots and Champ Karts will complement the triple programs.
The most notable winner of the Indoor Auto Racing Series PPL Center TQ Midget race is Ryan Flores from Mooresville, NC
Like Danner, Flores won a race in the Turkish Derby last weekend, only his own came in a 100-lap Factory Stock race.
Flores, who works for Roger Penske’s NASCAR Cup Series organization, will be looking for her fifth victory at the PPL Center in January.
Erick Rudolph is the only other repeat winner of the event. Justin Bonsignore, Scott Kreutter and Matt Janisch each have a win.
Andy Jankowiak of Buffalo, NY was the 2020 VP TQ Midget Car indoor auto racing series champion powered by a slim margin over Rudolph.
Doors in Allentown will open at 6 p.m. and races at 7:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturdays, the doors open and a Fan Fest starts at 5 p.m., with races starting at 7 p.m.
Following Allentown, the series will head to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on January 28-29 and wrap up in Syracuse, NY at the NY State Fairgrounds Exposition Center from March 11-12.
