Police: Motorcyclist killed in Marine Drive crash during reported street race; another driver quoted | Local News

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) – A person died early Monday morning after an accident in North Portland, and his death appears to have occurred during a street race, police said.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded around 12:51 a.m. to a crash in the 6200 block of North Marine Drive.

On the spot, the police learned that a motorcycle had struck a Mercedes sedan.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, police said. Their identity has not been revealed.

Police reported no other injuries.

PPB said the fatal crash took place during a reported illegal street racing event in the area with around 350 people in attendance.

Investigators believe speed likely played a role in the crash and the Mercedes and motorcycle may have been involved in sprint races.

The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 19-year-old Raphael Andres Orozco of Portland, was cited for reckless driving.

The accident is still under investigation.
