AURORA, Colorado (CBS4) – Aurora police have identified two suspects in connection with the street race that blocked Interstate 225 in March – however, one, Anthony Corona, was killed in an accident in Broomfield on April 4. On March 8, Aurora police said up to 800 vehicles were stranded on I-225 after street racers took over the freeway.

“I-225 southbound from Alameda to Colfax is blocked due to street runners blocking and interfering with traffic,” said the The Aurora Police Department tweeted.

The juvenile suspect was issued a subpoena with a mandatory court appearance for reckless driving, driving while his license was canceled and participating in a speed show.

Investigators planned to charge Anthony Corona, 21, with seven counts, including reckless endangerment, obstruction of a freeway and false imprisonment – for “victims trapped on I-225”.

However, Corona was hit by a car and killed while walking on East Interstate 25 Frontage Road between Interstate 7 and County Road 6 at 8:30 p.m. on April 4.

Investigators say Corona and a woman were on their way home from a baseball game in Denver and got into an argument. The woman said Corona stopped, got out of the car and started walking north.

The driver who hit Corona remained at the scene and police say he was not intoxicated or distracted at the time of the crash.
