Watkins Glen International recently announced a new standalone road racing event, the Masters & HSR Race Weekend.
The event will be hosted by Masters Historic Racing from July 9-11. It will be headlined by Masters Historic Formula One USA, featuring 3-litre F1 era cars from 1966 to 1985; Masters Endurance Legends USA, for endurance-based prototypes and GT cars from 1982 to 2016; and the new Masters Formula Atlantic Plus series, for Formula Atlantic, Formula Super Vee and F2 cars from 1969 to 1986.
The event will also feature HSR Group 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 categories. Group 5 will compete in its own racing group and feature classic Big Bore sports cars and sedans, including Porsche 911s, Mustang V8s and Corvettes from 1967 to 1975. Group 7 will feature sports racers from the 1960s. 1960s and 1970s, including GT40s and Lola T70s. Group 8 will be the historic car group and Group 9 will represent IMSA historic cars from the 1970s as well as TA and SCCA cars from the same period. The final 10 group will be made up of more modern machines that do not fit the Masters Endurance Legends group from host HSR.
The weekend will start with a test day on July 8, followed by three days of racing.
